This is a topic that I have done a recorded audio blog on and I feel that there is still more to be said!! It is very easy to look at celebrities and compare ourselves to them and society's standard of beauty. This very thing makes it difficult for us to love and accept ourselves (body and all)! I will be the first to admit that I too have compared my body and looks to that of what is displayed on television and magazines! But at the end of the day, I realized that even a lot of these celebrities' body images are not being accurately depicted (between air brushing, photo shopping, pounds of makeup, waist trainers, plastic surgery, etc)!
I also had to condition my mind to stop comparing myself to others. I am thankful that I genuinely LOVE WHO I AM and the woman that I am becoming! Yes my weight was a bit of an insecurity for me at times, but I have come to accept that I may never have MY DREAM BODY but that I am still BEAUTIFUL and SEXY!! I also decided to roll up my sleeves and get into better shape and adopt a healthier lifestyle! We all have the power to make lifestyle changes if we are unhappy when it comes to our body image. I urge and encourage you not to wallow in this unhappiness, instead lets be proactive and make the necessary changes! Most importantly we should spend just as much energy if not more on our inner beauty (I know it sounds so cliche but it is true)! I agree with Iyanla when she said that clothing and makeup are supposed to accentuate our beauty not create it! I also love when she said "the place that you don't want to go is where your healing is". I completely agree with this statement! We also have to be willing to go to those vulnerable and dark places within ourselves in order for the healing to occur! What are your thoughts regarding this clip on body image?
