Welcome back to my NEW Thursday Initiative which is the HBO series called GIRLS!!! Today's clip sheds light on how REAL it is to have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. The main character, Hannah was obsessed with the number eight and would count, chew, open/close her apartment door, etc to the count of eight. I really LOVE that this series depicts how challenging having OCD is and how it can be easily triggered by stress and anxiety. What you did not see in this clip is that Hannah was under pressure with writing her first E Book and had a deadline that she had to follow. When she began experiencing anxiety her OCD kicked in. Hannah struggled with OCD from the time she was a child. OCD is actually considered a mental illness that can require clinical interventions. I think that it is important for more series to talk about these very struggles that a lot of people face!!!
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is an anxiety disorder in which time people have recurring, unwanted thoughts, ideas or sensations (obsessions) that make them feel driven to do something repetitively (compulsions). The repetitive behaviors, such as hand washing, checking on things or cleaning, can significantly interfere with a person’s daily activities and social interactions. If you find that you or someone who you may know could possibly have OCD; to the point where it gets in the way of you being able to function in your everyday life.....one should consider seeking professional help from a mental health clinician. Were you aware of how serious having a diagnosis of OCD is? What are your thoughts?
