5/31/2016 0 Comments Chasing Destiny Episode 9!!!!!!!!!I THOROUGHLY ENJOYED episode 9 of Chasing Destiny!!!!!!! I LIVED for seeing the girls in the studio!! I appreciated the rawness and reality that was depicted as studio work can be tricky and challenging! Some group members may learn/nail the parts faster than others. This was one of the group member's (Gabby) first time ever singing in a studio. I know first hand that recording in the studio can cause a lot of nervous energy! I am glad that the girls were encouraging which helped her to power through it all!
About halfway through the episode there was a little hiccup in the road when Gabby and Brienna decided to record in the studio without the other three group members. The good thing is that Kristal led the charge for them to discuss their concerns regarding this matter so that everyone could get back on the same page. COMMUNICATION IS EVERYTHING IN ALL SITUATIONS!!!!!!!! A lack of communication is a key element that can destroy any group. I really like how Kristal uses her prior experience from singing with the group Rich Girl in this group to avoid a lot of the pitfalls that affected her prior situation! Now moving on to the fashion/makeovers!!!!! The girls looked AMAZING for their photo shoot!!!!!! I loved the styling of the photo shoot!!! Their makeover transformations channeled each of their personalities! They then were able to receive a crash course in media training with Kelly's best friend La La which was important! These girls are very talented and are really absorbing all of the mentoring that Kelly is providing them! What were your thoughts on episode 9 of Chasing Destiny?

5/27/2016 0 Comments I've Got A Wedding to Plan! This is the season for wedding celebrations!! Love is all through the air! My mother and I wrote this book after planning my wedding about a year and a half ago. We had SOOOO much fun with the process and learned so much about wedding planning; to where we wanted to share some great tips and things to consider with everyone! There are so many factors to keep in mind when planning a wedding. Organization is key and knowing the type of wedding that you would like to have is also important! This book breaks it all down using a simple formula. This book will always mean so much to me because I got to experience one of my life's best moments with my momma by my side every step of the way as she was my wedding planner. I present to you our passion project "I've Got a Wedding to Plan"! For details on how to purchase this book go to: _

It's crazy, when I watch a lot of the female celebrities that we all follow, as well as observe us everyday folk, it seems that more of us struggle with having a healthy sense of self esteem than not. I feel that it is important to really love who you are and who you are becoming! I recognize that self esteem starts from when we are little. For us ladies, our fathers were the first ones to teach us how we should be loved, how beautiful we are (inside and out), how precious we are, and how our future husbands should treat us. Unfortunately, many women have not received this message from their fathers. I truly thank and praise God everyday for blessing me with a father who told and showed me how precious and valuable I was. I believe that because I knew my worth I ended up marrying the type of man that I did (someone like my father). My husband treats me like the queen that I am because he too knows my worth and value.
We all have our days when we have bouts with insecurity. However, it is important for us to love and embrace who God made us to be (this is my mantra). When we know and realize our worth, we are able to love ourselves, love and appreciate the similarities and differences in others, compliment other women, cheer other women on even when we are not where we want to be, advocate accordingly for ourselves, and be comfortable in our own skin! Self esteem is a powerful thing! It sets the pre-cursor for who we allow in our lives. It affects our "picker" of men and friends! It can also affect how we raise our children......especially our daughters! Having a healthy sense of self esteem can also help us to acknowledge our mistakes! I encourage all of us to take the time to work on our self esteem and truly know our worth! What are your thoughts? 5/25/2016 0 Comments Follow Your Passion! This sign means EVERYTHING to me right now! Lately, I have been pretty vocal about feeling stuck, clueless, and lost in determining what career I have been built for. They say that the things we love to do and are passionate about are what are careers should be focused around. I created vision boards (which I blogged about in previous posts) with hopes that it would help me to gain a clear focus on what my career goals are. Out of the vision boards birthed this website! That is why this website is sooooo very important to me during this phase of my life! Through this site, I am able to live out/communicate my passions and dreams through my artistic expression! I still do not have all of the answers about what exact career I should be pursuing but I feel like I am getting a lot closer to that question being answered! I do believe that whatever career I end up pursing will involve music, fashion, people, public speaking, etc. I will continue to seek the Lord about this to gain clarity and direction! So for those who may be sitting in the same seat as me, be encouraged. Do not give up! If you have to journal, create a website (like me lol), beat down the gates of heaven with prayer, try new things, etc do what you have to do!
What are your passions? Do they coincide with your career of choice? Now I will say that I do not believe in astrology. However, every time that Mercury is in retrograde I notice that bizarre things happen. It is almost as if you find yourself not getting along with your significant other, friends, going through difficulties at your place of employment, etc. It is as if the world is in a state of chaos!! It is truly unexplainable lol! I did not see it coming this year! Every year I tell myself that I will prepare for such events, but it never seems to happen that way lol! This year I experienced bizarre things at my job that were unusual as well as strange behavior from those around me...maybe even including me lol!!!!! Mercury being in retrograde blindsided me this year for sure! I am glad that it is over and pray that things go back to their regular order. I am still perplexed as to how this theory seems somewhat true when my true belief is that God controls all. Maybe human behavior just goes a little crazy during this time of year!
What are your thoughts on Mercury being in retrograde? Today I went to see the play Married But Single with my girls at the Kings Theatre in Brooklyn, NY! I did not know exactly who was a apart of the cast prior to seeing the show. I must say that to my surprise the cast included Lisa Raye McCoy, Carl Anthony Payne, Clifton Powell, Chrisette Michele, La'Myia Good, Darrin Henson, Sampson Logan, Terell Carter, and Skye Griffin. The play was GREAT and the cast did a PHENOMENAL job! This play is centered around a couple. The woman (Lisa Raye's character) is in love with a man who is an R&B sensation but is tired of waiting to receive the level of commitment that she wants from him; her man knows how to communicate about love through song but struggles with demonstrating devotion and commitment to her. I won't give anymore details away as you have to go and see it lol! This play has a relatable storyline, with lots of laughs, and great singing! The man responsible for creating this play is named Je'Caryous Johnson. You can join his email club at jecaryous.com to get information regarding future tour dates.
While at the play, a lot of the audience would say their responses to what was going on during the scenes (you know how most of us do lol). My girl and I found it interesting that during the scenes where there were two married people struggling with abstaining from cheating on their spouses with each other; that a lot of the audience was actually yelling out responses encouraging the characters to cheat! That got the wheels turning in my head! As I have said in past posts, society no longer supports/respects the union of marriage. It was pretty disappointing to witness how the value of marriage has tremendously decreased. Maybe I am in my feelings about it because I am a newlywed. I just want to encourage those who want to get married not to lose faith and hope as this is a gift that God has given. Please do not let those who may be jaded due to their own negative experiences deter you from marriage if you have a desire to be married! Anyhow, in my opinion this play is a must see! I believe that this is a conversation that is important to have with yourself! The ladies made a lot of strong points. I like what Tamar said regarding having to assess your friendships to see if they bring more harm than good to your relationship/marriage! It is also important to not lose yourself in your marriage or relationship. Sidebar, Tamar is a PURE fool lol!!! You gotta love her Tamarisms and body language!
What are your thoughts on this topic? I stumbled on this segment this evening. I do not usually tune into Oprah's Life Class but a lot of the points discussed stood out to me. I love the point that was made about how true successful women want their fellow friend, co-worker, acquaintance, and family member to win too (I am paraphrasing of course lol). This point was powerful to me because a lot of us have allowed society to brain wash us into thinking that only one of us can make it and shine! To be honest, when one of us wins we all win! I will be transparent, I too have been guilty of that way of thinking. At the end of the day, there is room for all of us to win. We have to work harder at supporting one another, cheering each other on, and to stop betraying one another! This very thing gets in the way of friendships and relationships! I think that it is important for us to work through our own personal issues on a continual basis this way we are not projecting our own self hatred onto others.
I put a lot of emphasis throughout this site on knowing and loving who God created you to be. I think that when we continue to struggle with loving and accepting ourselves for who we are it becomes easy to become jealous and envious of our fellow sister, friend, co-worker, family member, etc. Just a thought that came to me after watching this clip. What are your thoughts on the state of the sisterhood and the 5 reasons why we as women betray each other? I faithfully watch the show "The Real". My favorite part of the show is GIRL CHAT TIME!! I enjoyed watching this segment as it was thought provoking! I then asked myself what my advice would be to my younger self. I would tell myself to follow my gut instincts even when it did not make sense and to stay authentic to who I was even if no one else got me! I am thankful that the advice that I would give myself now I pretty much followed then! I would also tell myself to forget about "that guy" because he was not going to be my husband anyway BOOM lol!!
The point that Jeannie made is what this website supports and stands for! The more we are able to embrace our vulnerability, understand/love ourselves, and be who we really are.....the more we will be at peace and others will be more receptive to us. What advice would you tell your younger self? A few months ago, I tuned into the BET Centric show called Being. They did a story on the actress Lisa Raye. I found her story to be quite interesting. What stood out to me the most was towards the end of the episode where she talked about the power of vision boards. She said that vision boards can help one to keep a specific focus in a particular area of their life; which keeps you on track with your vision, passion, career, life goals, finances, etc. Now don't get me wrong, I know and recognize that God controls all things that happen within our lives. However, I have found that working on these vision boards has helped me to focus on my career goals and life passions. I have been going through a period in my life where I felt so lost as it pertained to my career. I figured that I had nothing to lose in creating a vision board. I'll be honest and say that I do not look at my vision board faithfully every day. But, I do purposely look at it a few times per week and it reminds me of my career and life goals. A part of me even feels that these vision boards helped further inspire/motivate me to create this website!
My vision boards promote positive thoughts and emotions when I look at them. It reminds me to make time for the areas in life that I am passionate about and to follow my career dreams. I ultimately see myself establishing a career where I can merge my life passions and purpose. I am still waiting on the Lord for guidance in this area of my life and am learning to embrace the journey. Sometimes we all need visual reminders of the things that are most important to us to help keep us on track with achieving our life goals and God given purpose. Have you ever created a vision board? What are your thoughts? |
