Welcome back to Being Mary Jane Tuesdays!!! What I LOVE about this trailer are two points that were briefly made....that are THOUGHT PROVOKING!!! During the scene where Mary Jane was in her car talking to her niece, her niece expressed to her that "everyone is not as beautiful or as together as you are". I absolutely ADORED Mary Jane's response which was......."you do not get to use my success for the reason that you cannot get your life together"! I truly believe that it is very EASY for some of us to use our friends, family members, and even spouses' success as an EXCUSE for why are lives are in chaos. I believe that we need to put more of the focus on getting to the root of the chaos in our lives with a plan to figure out the next steps from there.
The second moment that RESONATED with me in this trailer clip was the scene where Mary Jane was in the car with her brother and he said to her "one day you will actually believe that you are the baddest chick in the game, and then your life will get better". I love the message that is delivered in that one line. Many of us men and women have a hard time BELIEVING that we are EVERYTHING AND THEN SOME!!! When we do not think much of ourselves and our abilities our lives tend to remain in the rut that it is in. I TOTALLY AGREE that when we realize our purpose, worth, talents, abilities, strengths, challenges, struggles, beauty, and the list goes on......we will then start to see our lives change for the better. Our choices will begin to change in positive ways when we UNDERSTAND and KNOW our worth!!! I encourage us all to ponder on those two points as it relates and pertains to our own lives!!! Sidebar, Mary Jane is hilarious in such a SARCASTIC way!!! What are your thoughts? Please share!!!!

2/27/2017 0 Comments My New Found Love For Bath And Body Works Candles And My Overall Love For All Things That Smell Like Sugar And Spice!!!!!!!!Happy Monday everyone!!! Check out this clip where I express my love for ALL things that smell AMAZING including Bath and Body Works candles!!!
Have you ever experienced the BEAUTIFUL scents of these candles? Are you particular about how your house and car smells? Happy Sunday!!! I decided to spread an EMPOWERING message........which is that we all should TRUST OUR DOPENESS!!! I have been learning this more than ever lately! At times it is very easy to second guess our instincts, talents, abilities, strengths, and all of the ingredients that make us who we are! Let me tell you......do not let anyone make you second guess YOU!!! There have been times when I would walk into a room, a meeting, a crowd, maybe even a group of fellow women and would start to second guess "ME". I quickly learned that my intuition and all of the things that make me who I am are undeniable and not to let others' perspectives, insecurities, hidden agendas, etc make me question myself! I believe that we all are given the innate ability from God to click into our gut instincts! Let us all make ALL efforts to trust our DOPENESS!!!
Does this message resonate with you? If so in what ways? I did Sex and the City Thursdays for several months and segued into Sex and the City the Carrie Bradshaw Diaries......and decided to blog about the HBO series Girls!!! This series is SO AMAZING in my eyes because it really breaks down the UGLY TRUTH in friendships and what we as WOMEN go through internally and externally in life!!! I love the main character Hannah (the young lady who is in featured in this clip) because she is UNAPOLOGETICALLY herself!!! Whether it is a good or bad moment that she is having she is who she is! You already know that I can appreciate anyone who LIVES IN THEIR TRUTH!!! This series also tackles a lot of REAL LIFE issues that young adults face! Please note that this series uses a lot of vulgar language and explicit scenes. However, I will try my BEST to select the more CLEAN clips to blog about!
In this scene Hannah is talking about finding out that her Best Friend and the FORMER LOVE OF HER LIFE began dating....which would HURT THE HELL out of anyone of us!!! She discusses her feelings and what this experience was like while at a story slam. I love how Hannah is very funny without trying to be! She is a writer and expresses herself best in artistic ways! I love how she was able to PROCESS her feelings in this type of a setting.......around a BUNCH OF STRANGERS!! I also love when she said "I am Hannah forever and I can only control the mayhem around me". I found this thought to be PROFOUND because a lot of times I feel that we as humans try to control the mayhem around us....but we really ONLY can control the chaos that WE CREATE!!! I went through a similar thing when I was a teenager/young adult and remember being SO VERY HURT! But what I learned was that who I thought was a "friend' wasn't and the guy was a douche!!! That one experience opened my eyes to the fact that there are a lot of people out here who will always WANT WHAT YOU HAVE......and that a lot of us humans are VERY SELFISH and DAMAGED!!!! I also learned to NEVER put anything passed anyone!!! What are your thoughts about this clip? Have you ever watched the HBO Series Girls? Have you ever experienced such BETRAYAL? So today was supposed to be a segment of Being Mary Jane Tuesdays. However, I stumbled on this clip and felt that it was more IMPORTANT for me to share this message today! Actress Gabrielle Union from the hit show Being Mary Jane was discussing with Oprah and elite mixed company some of the dark times in her life. Gabrielle Union is a victim of sexual assault and OWNED that she would revel in engaging in gossip and hoping that her fellow actresses in the game who she felt DIMMED HER LIGHT would not "make it". I really LOVE that she was able to ADMIT the place that she once was in and how she had to WORK ON HERSELF in order to get out of that MISERABLE STATE!!! I also LOVED that she talked about what it really meant to LIVE IN HER TRUTH!!! So many of us "FRONT FOR THE CAMERAS" as I always say.......out of fear of being AUTHENTIC to who we really are! It truly pays for us to work on ourselves and discover the root of our issues....this way we can lead more HONEST lives!!!
What is it that we are truly afraid of when it comes to BEING WHO WE REALLY ARE? The crazy thing is that when we are FAKING THE FUNK more people can detect it than not!!!! Let's do the work folks and start TRULY LIVING IN OUR TRUTH....and making the necessary changes in our lives! Life is TOO SHORT to spend it living a LIE!!!!! What do you think about this clip? So today my husband and I took our VERY FIRST boxing class!!! We decided that we wanted to TURN UP our workouts and wanted to experience boxing TOGETHER!!! This class was REAL!! Thankfully, my cardio was pretty good......and I have to give credit to the spin classes that I have been taking for over a year!!! However, this class was still challenging as I am a beginner when it comes to the techniques of boxing! The hubby and I decided that we will take these boxing classes at least twice per week......and I FULLY EMBRACE THE CHALLENGE! Not only will I learn how to BOX......but I will also be able to shed some more lbs (pounds) and may FINALLY be able to get the flat stomach and back that I have ALWAYS wanted lol!!!!!
I REALLY LOVE the fact that my husband and I are doing this TOGETHER! I am a firm believer that couples should engage in physical activity together (in addition to sex) as a way to bond and reach goals as a UNIT! Before I end this blog post, I wanted to share some of the TEXTBOOK benefits to boxing....for those out there who may be considering this as hobby/form of exercise!!! Top 10 Benefits to Boxing 1. Fat Burning Boxing can easily burn as much as 500 calories per session. Boxing however, has an additional benefit thanks to the fact that it is high intensity training. You see, when performing high intensity training, you not only burn heaps of calories during the session, but for hours after the training session has ended. Typical cardio activities do not have this post training calorie burning effect. Hence, boxing is your best friend when it comes to losing weight. 2. Increased Muscle Tone A typical boxer's physique is toned and defined without a lot of bulk and that's why it's perfect if you really want to tone up. This is because punching is a fast repetitive action that produces toned taut muscles, in contrast to the slow, controlled, very heavy movements involved in body-building or weight lifting that produce size or bulk. 3. Build Strong Bones and Ligaments Resistance training strengthens your bones and reduces the progression of osteoporosis. In boxing, focus pads and punching bags provide resistance as does your own bodyweight when you perform pushups, pull ups, lunges, burpees and various other exercises. Your joints, tendons and ligaments will also get stronger in response to working against resistance. Using your bodyweight as can also help you maintain or increase your lean muscle mass which is absolutely critical to keeping your metabolic rate burning at maximum capacity. This is of utmost importance if you are trying to lose body fat. 4. Increased Cardiovascular Fitness Boxing is a full body movement so when you throw punches a huge number of your body’s muscles are contracting at the same time. This makes your heart and lungs work overtime to pump blood containing oxygen all around your body. Boxing will test your cardiovascular system to the max, forcing your body to adapt by making your heart and lungs better at delivering oxygen. This means that you can train at a higher intensity, giving an even greater fat burning effect. 5. Improved Muscular Endurance Boxing requires your muscles to contract repeatedly causing the muscles involved to fatigue. With training, your muscles can keep contracting for longer durations without getting tired, allowing you to train harder for longer and ultimately burn more calories. 6. Improved Core Stability Anything that causes your body to become unstable requires your core muscles to work harder to keep you balanced. Boxing requires lots of fast rotational movements and these core muscles will develop to allow you to punch hard without losing your balance. 7. Improved Strength and Power Boxing is the ultimate full body workout. Correctly thrown punches use your legs, hips, glutes, core, obliques, back, shoulders, chest and arms. Punching against resistance causes all of these muscles to contract with more force and speed, developing further your strength and power. 8. Stress Relief Sure, boxing is a fantastic physical activity that can help you get in shape, but it has psychological benefits too. Hitting stuff can make you feel really good! Take out the stresses of your normal life in a safe, controlled environment. It will leave you calm and relaxed and ready to tackle whatever curveball life throws at you next! 9. Improved Co-ordination and Body Awareness Moving lots of parts at the same time requires a good connection between your brain and your body. With patience and practice, focus and discipline can transfer over to other sports and activities. 10. Improved Confidence and Self-Esteem Mastering the techniques involved in boxing often make people feel pretty good! The better your technique, the more force you can put into your punch. The noise you hear when you land a strong, accurate punch right on the sweet spot of the focus pad is so satisfying! This information was sourced from dynamicboxingfitness@blogspot.com. Would you ever consider boxing as a fitness regimen? Lets get RIPPED together!!!! As we all know...we are in the month of February which is BLACK HISTORY MONTH! I wanted to shed some light on a fact that I just learned about......which is that the famous character BETTY BOOP was actually inspired by Esther Jones!!! Esther Jones was the real Betty Boop! The iconic cartoon character Betty Boop was inspired by a Black jazz singer in Harlem. Introduced by cartoonist Max Fleischer in 1930, the caricature of the jazz age flapper was the first and most famous sex symbol in animation. Betty Boop is best known for her revealing dress, curvaceous figure, and signature vocals “Boop Oop A Doop!” While there has been controversy over the years, the inspiration has been traced back to Esther Jones who was known as “Baby Esther” and performed regularly in the Cotton Club during the 1920s.
Baby Esther’s trademark vocal style of using “boops” and other childlike scat sounds attracted the attention of actress Helen Kane during a performance in the late 1920s. After seeing Baby Esther, Helen Kane adopted her style and began using “boops” in her songs as well. Finding fame early on, Helen Kane often included this “baby style” into her music. When Betty Boop was introduced, Kane promptly sued Fleischer and Paramount Publix Corporation stating they were using her image and style. However, video evidence came to light of Baby Esther performing in a nightclub and the courts ruled against Helen Kane stating she did not have exclusive rights to the “booping” style or image, and that the style, in fact, pre-dated her. Baby Esther’s “baby style” did little to bring her mainstream fame and she died in relative obscurity but a piece of her lives on in the iconic character Betty Boop. I truly did not know this fact and find it CRAZY that society makes it seem as if the caricature Betty Boop was inspired by a white woman (Helen Kane)! The things you learn when you do a little RESEARCH!! Let's continue to look into African American culture!!! We were SO MUCH MORE than just slaves!!! We gave VALUABLE CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE WORLD and to HISTORY!!!! This information was furnished from the website Black Culture Connection! 2/16/2017 0 Comments Sex And The City Thursdays......The Carrie Diaries~Carrie Meets Weaver/The Start Of Her Writing Career!!!!!!!Welcome back to another Sex and the City Thursdays segment of "The Carrie Diaries"!!! I LOVE how this clip shows a young Carrie Bradshaw at the start of her writing career. She was interning at a well known magazine in NYC. Carrie's boss saw her potential and gave her a writing opportunity to interview Weaver (who is a play writer). Carrie did a GREAT job of charming and disarming Weaver; to where he felt comfortable around her. However, they ended up falling for one another which caused her to no longer want to AIR HIS PERSONAL BUSINESS for the sake of a good story. Her boss then reverted back to giving Carrie the tasks that a usual intern would have.......such as getting coffee!!! I must say that I respect Carrie's integrity in this situation.......but it is also clear that she was not quite ready to step into what the world of writing really entails! After all, she is only in high school!
I think that it is so cool to see how Carrie's unique fashion style was depicted during her YOUNGER YEARS! She also was VERY MATURE for her age and had the ability to interact and engage with adults very well!!! What are your thoughts? Would you have sacrificed a KILLER JOB OPPORTUNITY for a cute guy? I have been reminded of this very thought as there are quite a few people around me going through some TOUGH STUFF that would drive the MOST SANE person absolutely CRAZY!!! In life there are certain things that we can control....like our choices and how we treat others. However, there are things that we have NO CONTROL OF that can ROCK OUR WORLD at it's core! In those moments I am learning to LEAN ON THE ALMIGHTY for solace, strength, direction, and comfort! There are people going through things in life that surpass our WORST DAY! I have expressed in the past on this website that I think about death more than an average thirty something year old.......which makes me remember HOW SHORT LIFE IS! I believe that we cannot forget to STOP AND SMELL THE ROSES and all of the other things listed above LOL! As I always say.....LIFE IS TOO SHORT TO BE MISERABLE AND UNHAPPY! We all have things to be grateful for within our lives and I just want to encourage us to remember that very notion EVEN IN THE MIDST OF OUR STORMS!
Let's also BE THERE for each other through the difficulties faced in this life!!!! Do you agree? Please share! 2/14/2017 0 Comments Being Mary Jane Tuesdays.......Controversial And Real Dinner Party Conversation!!!!!Welcome back to Being Mary Jane Tuesdays!!!!! Today's clip captures a very CONTROVERSIAL discussion between Mary Jane and her brother regarding the state of America and how it affects people of color! I definitely heard out both of their points and perspectives but will zone in on how Mary Jane reacted to her little brother's thoughts!!! I love how CANDID this show is....which is what keeps me coming back every week! This discussion/episode was season 2....which was a CRAZY ride! Mary Jane was dealing with feelings of hurt, confusion, and anger regarding David, who happened to be the LOVE OF HER LIFE. He moved on to a relationship with a white woman and they were expecting a baby. Mary Jane thought that once she had her "light bulb" moment that she would have been able to get him back. However, that was NOT THE CASE! I believe that she ventilated some of that anger and frustration on her younger brother....which is why their conversation got so heated. Mary Jane definitely has her way of being very HARSH and JUDGMENTAL! Once you mix that with LIQUOR.....it's not pretty LOL!!!!
I think that this clip emphasizes that it pays for us to PROPERLY work out our issues so that we do not ventilate those emotions on to others! I can admit that I have been GUILTY of this very thing on more than one occasion! I have learned the importance of processing each emotional moment accordingly so that I do not WRONGFULLY take it out on those around me! Now I am a passionate person and fully stand behind my thoughts, perspective, and truth! However, that does not give me the license to HIT BELOW THE BELT! I LIVE for THOUGHT PROVOKING CLIPS!!! What are your thoughts on this clip? Don't be shy.....speak your mind! |
